Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has responded with bemusement to Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah’s criticism of Punjab’s recent reduction in electricity prices, which Shah labeled as “foolish.”
Speaking at a Lahore event where she recognized top-performing students, CM Maryam Nawaz expressed disbelief at Shah’s remarks, questioning the Sindh government’s priorities. During the ceremony, she awarded cash prizes, medals, and certificates to the students and encouraged them to honor their parents and teachers.
CM Maryam Nawaz defended the electricity relief initiative, which includes a Rs 14 per unit reduction for two months, as part of a broader strategy to implement a solar energy project aimed at achieving long-term reductions in electricity bills.
In reaction to Shah’s criticism, she remarked, “I laughed when I heard that reducing electricity prices was deemed foolish. Isn’t it more foolish to enrich oneself through corruption and spend public money on lavish protocols, planes, and convoys while denying the people any relief?”
She concluded by expressing pride in the temporary relief measure, hoping that such benefits could eventually be extended to all of Pakistan, not just Punjab.
