Maria B Faces Criticism Over Palestine-Inspired Fashion Collection
Pakistani fashion designer Maria B has stirred both admiration and controversy with her latest collection, which pays tribute to Palestine. The collection, featuring the colors of the Palestinian flag—red, white, black, and green—includes prints reminiscent of the traditional Palestinian keffiyeh. Maria B announced the launch on Instagram, aiming to express solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
In her post, Maria wrote: “Freedom and Unity. Presenting a collection that holds a special place in Maria’s heart—a tribute to the enduring spirit of our Ummah. Falasteen. Inspired by those who stand tall, this collection embodies unity and strength. Launching online and in-stores tomorrow… All of the proceeds from the campaign will be donated to Palestine.”
Despite the intention to support a meaningful cause, the collection has sparked a heated debate online. Critics accuse Maria B of using the Palestinian struggle as a marketing strategy, with some expressing outrage over what they view as a commercial exploitation of a serious issue.
One critic wrote, “While Palestinians are facing severe hardships, Maria B sees this as an opportunity for a fashion statement. Her collection won’t contribute to the liberation of Palestine. She needs to clarify which charity will benefit from the proceeds. This stunt seems insincere.”
Maria B’s campaign continues to draw a divided response, with some applauding her solidarity and others questioning the motivations behind her efforts.
