Customs authorities at Islamabad Airport have seized over two dozen newly launched iPhone 16 Pro Max devices from a passenger attempting to smuggle them into Pakistan.

According to sources, customs staff intercepted a passenger from Quetta who was carrying 30 iPhone 16 Pro Max units that had been imported from the UAE. Reports suggest that the passenger had been in contact with a customs official prior to the seizure, but other staff members thwarted the smuggling attempt.

The recent launch of the iPhone 16 Pro Max has created lucrative opportunities for dealers in Pakistan, who often import phones without paying duties to maximize profits.

Following the seizure, customs officials registered an FIR against the passenger involved; however, the document did not name the official alleged to have communicated with the passenger regarding the clearance of the phones.

This incident follows a previous case at Islamabad Airport where customs also seized phones but did not file an FIR. The customs department is required to register an FIR for any seizure exceeding Rs. 5 million in value.
