ISLAMABAD: Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim has arrived in Islamabad for a significant three-day official visit, aimed at revitalizing the strategic partnership between Malaysia and Pakistan. He was warmly welcomed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at Nur Khan Airbase.

Accompanying the Malaysian PM is a high-profile delegation, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hassan, Minister of International Trade and Industry Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Haji Hasbi Bin Haji Habibollah, and Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Religious Affairs Senator Dr. Zulkifli bin Hasan.

Earlier in the day, Foreign Minister Mohammad arrived and engaged in preparatory discussions with his Pakistani counterpart, Ishaq Dar. The two prime ministers are scheduled to meet formally on Thursday to assess the current state of cooperation and explore new avenues to strengthen bilateral relations.

Key topics for discussion will include trade, connectivity, energy, agriculture, the halal industry, tourism, cultural exchanges, and enhancing people-to-people ties. The strategic partnership between the two nations has been in place since 2019.

In addition to bilateral issues, the leaders will exchange views on significant regional and international matters, particularly the Palestine conflict, the Israeli invasion of Lebanon, and the evolving situation in the Middle East.

Following their discussions, the prime ministers will oversee the signing of two important documents: a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Matrade and the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan, as well as a letter of cooperation between the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

As part of this visit, three translated works of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, originally in Persian, Urdu, and English, will also be launched in Bahasa Melayu, celebrating the rich cultural ties between the two nations.
