The School Education Department in Lahore is launching a new WhatsApp learning program to improve education in government schools. This program, in partnership with UNICEF, will start in 10 schools across Lahore.
The program will train 10 parents and 5 teachers from each participating school over 4 weeks. The goal is to improve communication and collaboration between teachers and parents to enhance education quality. Schools are asked to submit lists of interested teachers and parents.
This initiative follows the approval of a public schools reorganization plan by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The plan aims to rehabilitate and improve government schools in the province.
Chief Minister Nawaz aims to build or renovate 1,000 school grounds in six months and has also called for weekly and monthly competitions in government schools to make education more engaging. Additionally, a comprehensive mapping of schools will be done to address their needs and guide future improvements.
The reorganization plan includes regularizing 14,000 Assistant Education Officers (AEOs) and Secondary School Educators (SSEs) for better job security. The Green School Programme, part of the initiative, will have each student plant a sapling, with progress tracked digitally to promote environmental responsibility.
