KARACHI: In response to the increasing risk of monkeypox spread, Jinnah Hospital in Karachi has set up a dedicated isolation ward to manage potential cases. The new ward, equipped with five rooms, aims to contain and treat any suspected monkeypox patients effectively. Dr. Yasin Imrani, Assistant Director at Jinnah Hospital, confirmed that similar measures have been taken at Napa Hospital.

In addition to the isolation measures in Karachi, Lahore Airport has been placed on high alert following the emergence of monkeypox cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). The Border Health Management convened an emergency meeting with airport officials to enhance safety protocols and prevent the virus’s spread.

As part of the heightened precautionary measures, thermal scanners have been installed at Lahore Airport to monitor incoming passengers. Both passengers and airport staff are required to wear masks to reduce the risk of transmission. Nazir Ahmad Khan, Airport Manager, also noted that fumigation is in progress and isolation rooms are being prepared for any potential monkeypox cases.

These proactive steps reflect the authorities’ commitment to controlling the spread of monkeypox and safeguarding public health amidst growing concerns.
