Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city, has been named the second riskiest city in the world by Forbes Advisor. This ranking follows a study that compared 60 cities globally across seven key risk factors: crime, personal safety, health, infrastructure, natural disasters, and digital security.
High Personal Security Risks
Forbes Advisor highlighted Karachi as having the highest personal security risk. This category includes threats from crime, violence, terrorism, natural disasters, and economic instability. The U.S. State Department also ranked Karachi second in terms of travel safety concerns, noting significant issues with terrorism and violence. In June 2023, the State Department issued a “Level 3” travel advisory for Pakistan, advising travelers to reconsider their plans to visit the country.
Other Riskiest Cities
Caracas, Venezuela, was ranked as the most dangerous city in the world, primarily due to its high health security risks and crime rate. Yangon, Myanmar, placed third, with notable digital and personal security risks.
Safest Cities in the World
In contrast, Forbes Advisor also identified the world’s safest cities. Singapore topped the list, praised for its low natural disaster risk and strong health security. Following Singapore were Tokyo, Japan, and Toronto, Canada, both recognized for their overall safety and high quality of life.
