Karachi is experiencing a significant monsoon deluge, with heavy rainfall and strong winds impacting various parts of the city. The monsoon system, which originated from Indian Gujarat, has brought continuous showers to the area.
The Meteorological Department forecasts that the rains will persist until August 31, potentially bringing between 150 to 200 mm of rain to the city. In response, the city administration has declared a rain emergency and set up a dedicated monitoring cell at the Chief Minister’s House.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has directed all Divisional Commissioners to stay on high alert to ensure public safety.
The heavy rains have caused widespread waterlogging in Karachi, affecting areas such as Gulistan-e-Johar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Defence, and Saddar. The situation is particularly severe around Saddar Empress Market, where roads are nearly impassable.
Thunderstorms and gusty winds are adding to the challenges. Authorities are advising residents to avoid unnecessary travel and stay cautious as the monsoon weather continues.
