KARACHI: In a dramatic conclusion to a high-profile case, an antiterrorism court (ATC) in Karachi has sentenced two brothers to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of their business partner.
On Friday, ATC-II Judge convicted Muhammad Shahid and Muhammad Zahid for the killing of 24-year-old Zaheem Hassan, whose dismembered body was discovered in various locations. The court found the brothers guilty under Section 302 (murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997.
In addition to life sentences, the court imposed a fine of Rs10,000 on each convict. They were also ordered to pay Rs2 million in compensation to Zaheem’s heirs, with an additional six months in prison if they fail to make the payment.
State prosecutor Pervez Ghumro revealed that on August 24, 2019, Zaheem’s body parts were found in a carton in the Sharafi Goth area. Following this gruesome discovery, Rangers established a special team and, using intelligence-based information, conducted a raid in Korangi. Shahid and Zahid were arrested and subsequently confessed to the crime, citing a financial dispute as the motive.
