Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah announced plans to propose a resolution in the Sindh Assembly to make Karachi a sister city of New York.

He made this announcement during a meeting with Deputy Speaker of the New York State Assembly, Phil Ramos, and his delegation, which included American Pakistani Public Affairs Committee (APPAC) members.

The meeting, held at CM House, included key provincial officials. Ramos mentioned that the idea of making New York and Karachi sister cities was discussed during his 2023 visit but was not finalized.

CM Murad promised that the Sindh Assembly would pass the resolution in its next session, and he expected the New York Assembly would do the same. He asked Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah to draft the resolution with Ramos’s input.

The meeting also led to an agreement to upgrade a Nursing College in Sindh to international standards with help from APPAC. Additionally, the Sindh Education Department will start an online program to connect with New York schools for mutual learning. This initiative will begin with one government and one private school in Sindh, allowing virtual exchanges between teachers and students.
