India has initiated a process to issue visas on arrival for senior citizens from Pakistan, marking a significant step in cross-border relations despite ongoing tensions stemming from recent clashes in disputed Kashmir.
Pakistan’s cricket performance has deteriorated in recent years, highlighted by a disheartening loss to Bangladesh at home. Aside from their notable run to the final in the T20 World Cup 2022, the team has been inconsistent across formats. Their poor showing in the ODI World Cup and an early exit from the T20 World Cup 2024, where they lost to both the USA and India, has further emphasized their decline.
Reflecting on the situation, Akmal lamented the lack of a robust domestic structure that once nurtured talent. He pointed out that in the past, competitions like the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and various departmental tournaments provided a strong foundation for the game, allowing quality players to emerge. “There was a proper process, and quality cricket was played,” Akmal stated during an interview with Arvind Kalyana Krishnan. His comments underscore a growing concern among former players regarding the direction of Pakistan cricket and the need for systemic reform.
