In a notable shift in Apple’s production strategy, the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro series will be assembled in India for the first time, marking a significant departure from the company’s reliance on Chinese manufacturing for its Pro models.
Bloomberg reports that Foxconn India, a major Apple manufacturing partner, will lead the production of the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max at its Indian facilities shortly after their official release. This development signifies a major expansion of Apple’s manufacturing footprint in India, which previously focused solely on non-Pro iPhone models.
Apple’s manufacturing presence in India has been growing steadily since 2017. Recent reports underscore India’s increasing importance in Apple’s global production network, with the country now contributing to 14% of total iPhone output. This figure is expected to surge, with predictions suggesting that India could handle up to 25% of iPhone production by next year.
