India’s Olympics Funding Surpasses Pakistan’s Entire Sports Budget—What Does This Mean for Both Nations?

With the 2024 Paris Olympics approaching, Pakistan is sending only seven athletes with minimal funding, while India has announced its largest-ever team of 117 athletes competing in 16 sports, backed by over 470 Crore rupees.

This difference highlights the gap in sports investment between the two countries. India’s 2024 team includes 70 men and 47 women competing in 69 events, while Pakistan is counting on javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem for a medal. The disparity is clear when comparing the two countries’ Olympic preparations and funding.

India’s well-funded sports system, involving the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Sports Authority of India, and other organizations, supports athletes with comprehensive resources. This approach has created a strong sports environment focused on athlete development.

In contrast, Pakistan’s limited Olympic team reflects broader issues in its sports infrastructure, where insufficient funding and support hinder athlete growth. To achieve more success in the future, Pakistan needs to significantly improve its funding, infrastructure, and overall support for its athletes.
