Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Laila Majnu’ Re-Release Outperforms Original Box Office Collection in India

The re-release of Imtiaz Ali’s romantic drama Laila Majnu has quickly outpaced its original box office earnings. Since hitting theaters again on August 9, the film has already grossed INR 25 million in just three days. With its current momentum, it’s projected to reach INR 50 million by the end of its re-release period.

This remarkable success is notable as it marks the first time a Bollywood re-release has achieved a single-day gross of INR 10 million at the box office. Initially released in 2018, Laila Majnu had a modest performance but has since gained a cult following.

The film, starring Triptii Dimri and Avinash Tiwary, offers a contemporary retelling of a classic folktale. Despite its recent success, the re-release will be brief due to the anticipated launch of several new films on India’s Independence Day, including Stree 2, Khel Khel Mein, and Vedaa.
