RAWALPINDI: PTI founder Imran Khan has issued a stark warning that his party will stage massive protests if the government fails to comply with the Supreme Court’s ruling on reserved seats or attempts to extend the tenure of the current Chief Justice, Qazi Faez Isa.
In a statement from Adiala Jail on Monday, Khan accused the government of trying to manipulate the Constitution to secure a two-thirds majority and reappoint Chief Justice Isa. He criticized the administration for allegedly damaging Pakistan’s economy and undermining the Supreme Court. “If you breach the Constitution, the future of our youth will be jeopardized,” he said.
Khan also took aim at the establishment, alleging that the nation’s leadership and military are at odds. “The establishment has set the country’s largest political party against the military,” he remarked, adding that the current situation is precarious, likening it to a volcano on the verge of eruption. He stressed that despite the tensions, he believes the military will not turn against its own people.
Drawing comparisons to recent unrest in Bangladesh, Khan suggested that Pakistan’s situation is even more dire, with oppressive tactics reminiscent of those used by the former Bangladeshi prime minister against the opposition.
