Imran Khan Seeks to Halt £190 Million Case Proceedings with Petition to IHC

Imran Khan, founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has filed a petition with the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to stop the ongoing proceedings in the £190 million case. The petition challenges a recent trial court order issued on August 12.

In his petition, Imran Khan is also requesting access to records from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) regarding its April 2020 decision to close the £190 million case. He argues that the investigating officer had stated that the decision to close the case was approved during NAB’s 343rd Executive Board meeting.

Previously, the trial court had denied a request to obtain records of this Executive Board meeting. Imran Khan contends that the decision to close the case, made in an NAB Executive Board meeting in April 2020, is crucial to his defense.

Imran’s petition seeks to overturn the August 12 order from the accountability court, asserting that without the record of the NAB board meeting, his ability to mount an effective defense could be compromised. During cross-examination, the investigating officer did acknowledge certain details from the NAB’s 343rd board meeting, making it essential for the meeting’s record to be presented in court.
