The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA-G) has proposed to the government the imposition of a tax on both residential and commercial users with solar systems installed.
Reports from ProPakistani indicate that CPPA-G has forwarded a summary to the Ministry of Energy (Power Division) regarding this matter.
The proposal suggests a tax of Rs. 2,000 per kilowatt for users of both residential and commercial solar panels.
For instance, users with 12-kilowatt panels would be required to pay Rs. 24,000 in taxes. The summary has been forwarded to the prime minister’s office for approval.
Additionally, sources mention that there is consideration for a summary aiming to rationalize the buyback rates of net metering electricity.
Upon approval, an application will be submitted to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to adjust the buyback rates of net metering electricity.
