The Establishment Division has instructed the Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to address irregularities and corrupt practices within the FBR that are obstructing foreign investment through fraudulent activities and misuse of authority.
Reliable sources indicate that this directive follows a complaint by Khurram Shahzad Butt, which highlighted corruption within the FBR that hampers foreign investment. The Establishment Division has since escalated the matter, focusing on misconduct by certain tax officials at the Corporate Tax Office in Islamabad.
Previously, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had removed 25 high-ranking FBR officers—who held grades 21 and 22—based on reports from three intelligence agencies regarding their financial integrity and performance. This group included top board members and chief commissioners.
