The government plans to block bank accounts of non-filers and has decided to set a fixed sales tax amount for imported mobile phones under the amended Finance Bill 2024.
According to sources, the original Finance Bill 2024 included a proposal to freeze bank accounts of non-filers, which was not initially approved. However, if non-filers do not respond to notices, the government may now consider blocking their bank accounts until they are listed as active taxpayers.
Non-filers can still deposit money in banks but cannot withdraw it until they become filers and are listed in the Active Taxpayers List (ATL).
If approved, the FBR will issue an income tax general order (ITGO) to list non-filers’ names for blocking their bank accounts.
Additionally, the amended Finance Bill 2024 will replace the current 18 percent sales tax on imported mobile phones with a fixed sales tax amount based on the brands of the imported phones.
