Government Enables 1.5 Million Freelancers to Work Independently, Says Official

In a major step to support freelancers in Pakistan, the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) and the government have partnered to set up around 10,000 e-Rozgar centers to provide comprehensive support for online workers.

An official from the Ministry of Information Technology (IT) stated, “The e-Rozgar centers, already established by the government, offer excellent facilities to freelancers, including high-speed internet, UPS, training centers, individual cabins, meeting rooms, and separate office spaces for startups.”

The official added, “The government has fulfilled its promise by enabling many of the existing 1.5 million freelancers, as well as new ones, to work independently at minimal costs.”

He expressed hope that this major project would soon boost IT exports by $10 billion annually. Through public-private partnerships, these centers will significantly increase freelancers’ capacity and income.

The official also mentioned that the PSEB would provide the necessary technical support for these centers.

“We have taken all necessary steps to build a strong digital ecosystem in Pakistan and are using all available platforms to establish Pakistan as a global ‘Technology Destination,'” he added.
