Google plans to build 50 smart schools in Islamabad, Pakistan, and introduce various projects for education. These include teacher workshops, training for young people through Google Career Certificates, and setting up a public Google Reference School.
Google’s education team, along with its local partner Tech Valley, met with the Secretary of the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training to discuss these plans. The smart schools will have 30,000 Google for Education IDs with AI-powered features like practice sets and digital tools for better collaboration.
Other initiatives discussed include workshops for teachers on Google tools, establishing a Google Reference School, training 2,000 youths in job skills with Google Career Certificates, and the possibility of hosting an Edutech event with the Ministry of Federal Education.
Google is also dedicated to empowering women, as stated on International Women’s Day. They aim to bridge gender gaps by launching programs like Google Career Certificates, with at least 50% of scholarships reserved for women. In 2023, they awarded 44,500 scholarships, and they plan to offer 45,000 more in 2024.
Additionally, through the Google News Initiative (GNI), they train young journalists, especially women, to improve newsroom accessibility and provide reporting opportunities.
