LAHORE: The Punjab government has introduced significant relief for motorcycle license applicants, ARY News reported on Monday.

According to CTO Lahore Amara Athar, the requirement for a learner’s permit before obtaining a motorcycle license has been removed. The previously mandatory 42-day waiting period for a limited-duration motorbike license has been eliminated. Now, applicants can take the driving test and receive their license along with the learner’s permit in one step.

This change aims to save time and encourage adherence to traffic laws. Additionally, driving without a license will incur a fine of Rs 2,000, CTO Lahore noted.

Motorcyclists can now choose to obtain a license valid for one, two, or five years, and cash transactions at license centers have been abolished. Applicants need only present their CNIC to apply for a license.

Furthermore, audio and video recordings of the licensing process are now mandatory to ensure transparency.

In related news, the Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) has intensified efforts to enforce traffic laws, issuing fines to 9,956 motorcyclists for not wearing helmets. This crackdown is part of a broader initiative to improve road safety, as head injuries are a leading cause of death in motorcycle accidents. Helmets are recognized as a vital measure to reduce the risk of fatal injuries.

Throughout August, PHP inspected 209,353 vehicles in the Multan region, resulting in 73,410 vehicles being issued challans for various traffic violations.
