FPCCI Aims to Develop Agricultural Infrastructure

By

The FPCCI Standing Committee on Agriculture suggests that the Fauji Foundation should build roads, canals, and electricity infrastructure in corporate farming areas, especially in Cholistan, under the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) to attract investors.

Chaudhry Ahmad Jawad, Convenor of FPCCI Agriculture Standing Committee, noted the government’s commitment to uplift the agriculture sector through SIFC but stressed the need for speedy development of investor infrastructure.

Jawad highlighted that the Fauji Foundation, through SIFC, has established a company to manage corporate farming projects, with several local companies signing MoUs.

He emphasized the urgency of addressing agricultural challenges as Pakistan faces food insecurity despite being a top producer of wheat, rice, sugarcane, and milk. The Global Hunger Index ranks Pakistan 92nd out of 116 countries, signaling a “serious” hunger situation. A 2019 SBP report revealed that 37% of households in Pakistan suffer from food insecurity, worsened by double-digit food price inflation since August 2019.
