Karachi has reported its first case of the Congo virus for this year. The patient, a 32-year-old man, was admitted to Jinnah Hospital after experiencing high fever and diarrhea.
Hospital authorities confirmed that the man tested positive for the Congo virus and has since been transferred to the ICU for treatment.
The Congo virus, often associated with the Eid al-Adha festival due to the large influx of animals, is transmitted from animals to humans and can spread through person-to-person contact.
It’s important to note that this is not the first case in Karachi; a 42-year-old resident of East District was also diagnosed with the virus in November 2023.
Health officials are advising the public to take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the virus, particularly by avoiding contact with animals during the Eid al-Adha season.
