Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has called for a political approach to tackling terrorism and regional unrest, criticizing the current focus on military solutions and the tendency to blame Afghanistan for attacks within Pakistan.

In a recent session of the National Assembly, Rehman challenged the prevalent narrative that attributes the root cause of terrorism solely to Afghanistan. He argued that Pakistan must address its own shortcomings and internal issues.

“We are stationed on our own borders, not on Afghanistan’s,” Rehman emphasized, urging a shift in focus towards internal responsibilities rather than external accusations.

Rehman also criticized the inadequate response to attacks on Pakistan’s armed forces and institutions, expressing frustration with the escalating emotional rhetoric from both sides of the conflict. He warned that such statements and actions only intensify the situation and undermine Pakistan’s security.

The JUI-F leader stressed the importance of political solutions and proposed that experienced political leaders, rather than new or inexperienced individuals, should be tasked with addressing these challenges. He contended that sidelining seasoned politicians complicates the resolution process.

Rehman also noted the influence of foreign interests and projects like CPEC on local stability, highlighting the growing proxy war in the region.
