Fast Internet: PTA Decides to Grant License to Starlink

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is making strides to enhance internet speed across the nation by planning to issue a license to Starlink, the satellite internet company founded by Elon Musk.

PTA officials have confirmed that the decision to grant Starlink a license has been finalized in principle, with only a security clearance remaining. Once this clearance is obtained, Starlink will be officially licensed to operate in Pakistan.

“Starlink’s license is ready, and only security clearance is pending,” stated PTA officials.

The rollout of Starlink’s high-speed satellite internet service is expected to significantly improve connectivity, particularly in rural and remote areas where traditional broadband options are either slow or unavailable.

However, PTA officials clarified that Starlink must enter into a commercial agreement with Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) to deliver its services. This agreement will also need to be submitted to the PTA for approval.

If all goes according to plan, Starlink’s services are anticipated to launch in Pakistan within a year, promising citizens across the country access to reliable, high-speed satellite internet.
