RAWALPINDI: Former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hamid has been taken into military custody by the Pakistan Army due to allegations of land grabbing and theft of valuables from a private housing society owner, according to a statement from the military’s media wing on Monday.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that the action follows a detailed inquiry ordered by the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The investigation was conducted to verify the complaints made against Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hamid in the Top City Case.

The ISPR confirmed that disciplinary measures have been initiated against Hamid under the Pakistan Army Act, citing multiple violations of the act post-retirement. The former general, who previously served as Peshawar corps commander, is now facing a Field General Court Martial.

The arrest is linked to a petition filed last year by the chief executive officer (CEO) of a housing society, who accused Hamid of land grabbing and stealing valuables during a raid. In the petition submitted to the Supreme Court’s human rights cell in November, Moeez Ahmed Khan, the petitioner, requested action against Hamid and his associates, alleging confinement following the raid.

The ISPR’s statement confirms that legal proceedings are underway against the former ISI director general.
