The Olympics are the top global sports event, featuring athletes competing for gold, silver, and bronze medals. Pakistan has won Olympic medals three times, all in field hockey, thanks to its once-dominant hockey team.

Here’s a summary of Pakistan’s Olympic medals:

  • 1956 (Melbourne): Field Hockey – Silver. Pakistan lost to India (1-0) in the final after defeating Great Britain (3-2) in the semi-finals.
  • 1960 (Rome): Field Hockey – Gold. Pakistan beat India (1-0) in the final after overcoming Germany (2-1) and Spain (1-0) in earlier rounds.
  • 1964 (Tokyo): Field Hockey – Silver. Pakistan lost to India (1-0) in the final.
  • 1968 (Mexico): Field Hockey – Gold. Pakistan defeated Australia (2-1) in the final after beating Germany (1-0) in the semi-finals.
  • 1972 (Munich): Field Hockey – Silver. Pakistan lost to Germany (1-0) in the final after beating India (2-0) in the semi-finals. The match was controversial, leading to a two-year ban for the Pakistani team.
  • 1976 (Montreal): Field Hockey – Bronze. Pakistan lost to Australia (2-1) in the semi-finals but won against the Netherlands (3-2) for the bronze.
  • 1984 (Los Angeles): Field Hockey – Gold. Pakistan beat Germany (2-1) in the final after defeating Australia (1-0) in the semi-finals.
  • 1988 (Seoul): Boxing – Bronze. Hussain Shah Syed won a bronze in middleweight boxing, losing in the semi-finals to Egerton Marcus (CAN).
  • 1992 (Barcelona): Field Hockey – Bronze. Pakistan lost to Germany (2-1) in the semi-finals but won against the Netherlands (3-2) for the bronze, repeating the Montreal outcome.

Besides field hockey, Muhammad Bashir (1972) and Hussain Shah Syed (1988) are the only Pakistanis to win individual Olympic medals.
