Court Orders Release of Former PM Imran Khan

On Saturday, an Additional District and Sessions Court ordered the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in the iddat case. This decision overturned a previous ruling that had sentenced them to seven years in prison.

Earlier, a district court had rejected their requests to suspend the sentences. Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were accused of marrying during the three-month iddat period after Bushra’s divorce. Iddat is a waiting period in Islamic law before a woman can remarry after divorce or the death of her husband. The couple was initially sentenced for allegedly violating this rule.

The recent court ruling overturns the earlier decision, granting their release and easing the pressure they faced from the accusations and the previous judgment.

The iddat case has been controversial, with different interpretations of the rules and circumstances of the couple’s marriage. This latest ruling highlights the complexities within the legal system and the significance of the appeals process in ensuring justice.
