Comparing Google Gemini with ChatGPT: What Sets Them Apart?

Google has stepped into the AI game with its very own search engine, Gemini, taking on competitors like ChatGPT from OpenAI and Copilot from Microsoft. After a makeover from Bard chatbot to Gemini, Google introduced its new AI model, but it’s been met with mixed reviews.

Gemini comes in two versions: Gemini Pro, which is free and answers all questions, and Gemini Ultra (or Advanced), which requires a $20/month Google One AI subscription. Ultra offers better skills in reasoning, coding, and following instructions, along with promising future improvements in multimodal and data analysis capabilities. There’s also an AI Premium plan integrated with Google Workspace for drafting emails, documents, presentations, and recording Google Meet sessions.

Gemini’s responses to sensitive political questions were brief, often directing users to Google for more details. However, it was more forthcoming about lighter topics like TikTok trends. When asked about medical conditions, Gemini provided some guidance but cautioned against relying solely on its advice. It also handled mental health inquiries with care, offering recommendations for treatment and lifestyle changes.

Gemini excels in task integration, helping with travel plans and organizing Gmail inboxes by theme or receipt window. While it’s a solid AI model, it doesn’t offer much that sets it apart from competitors like ChatGPT. For now, ChatGPT seems to offer more features with its third-party plugins, custom instructions, and memory functions.
