On Wednesday, Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan met with the Pakistan Leather and Footwear Council, marking a historic first as a federal minister actively engaged with this sector’s council.
The meeting’s primary focus was on restructuring, strengthening, and revitalizing the council to make it a more dynamic and effective entity, according to a press release. Minister Khan emphasized the importance of sectoral councils in shaping policy and assured the council of the government’s commitment to bolstering the local industry.
Khan highlighted the need to seize “low-hanging fruits” – immediate opportunities that require minimal effort to capture. He reiterated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s dedication to supporting the industry and exporters through comprehensive incentives.
The minister assured the council that both he and the Ministry of Commerce, backed by a proactive and vibrant team, are fully committed to supporting the council’s initiatives. He urged the establishment of a dedicated secretariat within the Ministry of Commerce to drive future initiatives and ensure effective implementation of recommendations and proposals.
