Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has unveiled a series of significant educational initiatives in Punjab, including a substantial financial commitment to support students. The Punjab government will allocate over Rs 125 billion annually to cover the educational expenses of 25,000 students.
To implement this policy, Shah has directed his secretariat to replace plastic water bottles with glass jugs for meetings at the CM House. Recent footage has shown glass jugs and tumblers being used, reflecting the government’s commitment to reducing plastic waste. During a meeting, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of this initiative and urged all government departments and public spaces to adopt similar practices.
Shah advocates for the use of sustainable alternatives such as glass and biodegradable materials to protect the environment and enhance public health. He highlighted the detrimental effects of plastic waste, noting how it clogs drains, rivers, ponds, and seas, negatively impacting marine life and overall environmental quality. “Plastic waste is damaging our natural resources and polluting our surroundings,” Shah remarked. “It is crucial for us to adopt eco-friendly practices to ensure a cleaner, healthier future.”
In addition to banning plastic bottles, Shah has promised to take further steps to address environmental issues, including plans to tackle air pollution throughout the province as part of his administration’s comprehensive approach to ecological reform.
