The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has fined Reckitt Benckiser (RB) Pakistan Rs. 15 million for breaching competition laws.

The Competition Appellate Tribunal agreed with the CCP’s findings that RB engaged in deceptive marketing practices for its product, ‘Dettol’. The CCP’s decision followed a complaint from Unilever Pakistan, which accused RB of misleading advertising for Dettol Soap, claiming it kills 99.9% of germs and provides 24-hour protection.

An inquiry found RB’s claims unsubstantiated, leading the CCP to determine RB violated the Competition Act, 2010. Initially, the CCP imposed a Rs. 30 million fine.

RB appealed, and while the Tribunal confirmed the CCP’s findings, it reduced the fine to Rs. 15 million.
