Bitcoin’s price jumped above $60,000 per coin after an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, the expected Republican nominee for the 2024 US elections.

During a campaign rally, Trump was attacked but survived and was quickly escorted to safety. Following the news, Bitcoin surged from $58,337 to $60,224 in just a few hours, reaching its highest price in a week, according to CoinGecko.

But the big story is the rise of Trump-inspired meme coins. TREMP shot up 71% in 24 hours to $0.66, TRUMP rose by 39%, and MAGA increased by 33%.

Trump is known for his support of cryptocurrency, setting him apart from his opponent, President Joe Biden. After surviving the attack, some crypto investors believe Trump’s campaign will gain momentum and that his victory could bring more favorable regulations for the crypto industry compared to another term under Biden.
