A bill has been introduced in the National Assembly targeting government officials holding dual citizenship. The legislator argued that these officials often avoid accountability by moving to foreign countries after retirement.

According to reports, Noor Alam Khan, a lawmaker from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), has presented an amendment bill in the National Assembly. The bill suggests that individuals with dual nationality or foreign citizenship should not be eligible for civil service appointments.

MNA Noor proposed revisions to Section 5 of the Civil Servants Act, 1973, titled the “Civil Servants (Amendment) Bill, 2024”. The bill includes a provision stating, “Civil servants with dual nationality or foreign citizenship shall not be eligible for appointment.”

Noor Alam Khan emphasized that government officials should have a vested interest in the country where they hold positions of authority, privilege, and trust. He argued that his proposed amendments would uphold the loyalty of government officials as outlined in Article 5 of the Constitution.
