BCCI Requests New Venue for 2025 Champions Trophy Instead of Traveling to Pakistan

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that the Indian cricket team will not travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. Instead, the BCCI plans to ask the International Cricket Council (ICC) to move the matches to Sri Lanka or Dubai.

The tournament is set to be held in Pakistan from February to March 2025. However, due to ongoing political tensions, India has not played cricket in Pakistan since the 2008 Asia Cup. The last series between the two countries was in India from December 2012 to January 2013, with matches limited to ICC tournaments and Asia Cups since then.

The BCCI’s decision is based on political reasons and has been expected for some time. This setback affects Pakistan’s hopes of hosting a major ICC event. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had suggested that India play all its matches in Lahore, but the BCCI remains firm in its stance.

In May, BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla mentioned that the Indian team would only go to Pakistan if the Indian government allowed it.

The ICC will now need to address the BCCI’s request and find a solution that works for all parties while keeping the tournament on schedule.
