Babar Azam back as Pakistan’s captain in white-ball cricket

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has chosen Babar Azam as the captain for T20I and one-day internationals (ODIs). This decision was made after all the selectors agreed. Last year, after not doing well in the World Cup in India, Azam was no longer the captain for all types of cricket matches. Shan Masood was made captain for Test matches, and Shaheen Shah Afridi became captain for Twenty20 matches.

When this decision was announced, Azam and other players were still at a training camp run by the army in Kakul.

The PCB announced on their social media that Babar Azam has been made captain for ODI and T20I matches, as suggested by all the selectors. They also shared a video of the meeting between Naqvi and Azam.

Before this, the PCB had listed 29 players who were training in Kakul, Abbottabad.

The selection process for the national team has also changed, according to PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. He said that now there will be seven selectors, and each will have the same power. There won’t be a Chief Selector anymore to encourage better discussions. The committee includes former players like Mohammad Yousuf, Abdul Razzaq, Asad Shafiq, and Wahab Riaz, along with the current captain and head coach. There will also be a data analyst, but they won’t have a vote.
