ATM Card Blocked? Watch Out for This Recurring SMS Scam

By

Aug 26, 2024

A familiar SMS scam has resurfaced, alerting recipients that their ATM card has been blocked by the State Bank due to non-verification. The message directs you to contact a provided phone number to restore card access.

Be cautious: these messages often come from personal phone numbers rather than official bank numbers. They also provide a different mobile number for contact instead of a legitimate bank helpline and usually contain poorly written English—something that official communications typically avoid. To verify your card status, check your banking app or try using your card at an ATM.

We advise ignoring these messages, blocking the sender, and reporting the number using Google’s reporting feature.

This scam is not new; it has been troubling smartphone users for years and has now reappeared. Recently, ProPakistani and other users have reported receiving similar messages.

Fake Delivery Package Scam

Another recurring SMS scam involves fake delivery notifications. The message claims that your package from an online order has been seized or delayed due to an incomplete address. It then directs you to a malicious link to verify your details and requests payment.
