Pakistan’s top javelin thrower, Arshad Nadeem, finished fourth in the Paris Diamond League after a year-long break. Despite not winning a medal, he showed good form ahead of the Paris Olympics.
Nadeem’s first throw was 74.11 meters, improving to 80.28 meters on his second attempt, and then to 82.71 meters on his third attempt, placing him in the top three. However, in the fourth round, Jacob Vadlejch’s throw of 85 meters pushed him to fourth place. Nadeem’s fifth throw of 84.21 meters kept him in fourth.
This was Nadeem’s first major event since August 2023 after recovering from a knee injury and surgery. His performance suggests he’s on a promising path for the upcoming Paris Olympics.
Last year, Nadeem won a silver medal at the World Championships in Hungary but missed other events due to his injury. He’s now back on track after successful surgery.
Nadeem will return to Pakistan on July 8 for training in Lahore, then head back to Paris on July 24. This gives him about 12 days to prepare for his Olympic event on August 6. His personal best throw is 90.18 meters from the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games. He also finished fifth in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
