Alert: Update Google Chrome to Ensure Security

By

Jul 26, 2024

Google Chrome has released an emergency security update to fix critical vulnerabilities.

The update addresses two major issues: CVE-2024-4671, which could let attackers escape the browser’s sandbox via specially crafted web pages, and CVE-2024-4761, an out-of-bounds write in Google’s V8 JavaScript engine, also exploitably through crafted web pages.

To protect your device, update Chrome to version 124.0.6367.207 or later. Go to Settings > About Chrome and restart the browser if an update is available.

Additionally, Google has released Android security updates for June 2024, fixing 37 vulnerabilities. There are two security patch levels (SPLs): 2024-06-01 for 19 flaws in system components, and 2024-06-05 for 18 flaws in Kernel and other components.

WearOS received fixes for 3 vulnerabilities in the 2024-06-01 SPL, and Android AutomotiveOS includes the 2024-06-05 SPL fixes. Android users should enable Google Play Protect to get the latest updates and ensure their devices are running the newest security patches. Updating to Android OS versions 11 or above is also recommended.
