A recent report from the Local Government Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reveals that a staggering 90% of housing societies in the province are either illegal or unregistered. Only 10% of these societies are officially registered.

The report indicates that 60% of the housing societies are illegal, while an additional 30% are unregistered. This leaves just 80 legal housing societies in the province. Currently, there are 822 housing societies across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with the highest numbers located in Dera Ismail Khan Division (254), Peshawar Division (247), and Malakand (77), among others.

Out of these, 495 societies are classified as illegal and 247 as unregistered. To protect potential investors, the Local Government Department has published the names of these illegal and unregistered societies on its website and has urged the public to exercise caution when considering investments in housing societies.
