DHAKA: Severe flooding has impacted approximately 1.8 million people across six districts in Bangladesh, including Cumilla, Feni, Chattogram, Khagrachhari, Noakhali, and Moulvibazar. This crisis has been exacerbated by eight rivers in the northeastern and southeastern regions flowing above their danger levels, according to the Department of Disaster Management and Relief.

The flooding has submerged 43 upazilas across several districts, leaving around 189,663 families stranded. The rising waters have created a dire situation, trapping hundreds of thousands and complicating rescue efforts.

In neighboring India’s northeastern Tripura state, which borders Bangladesh, floods and mudslides have resulted in at least 11 deaths and displaced thousands of residents since Wednesday. The situation in Tripura has further intensified the regional crisis, with shared rivers between India and Bangladesh contributing to the worsening conditions.

As rescue operations continue, both Bangladesh and India are facing significant challenges in reaching and assisting affected communities, with at least four additional fatalities reported in Bangladesh due to the floods.
